Fitrana Calculator

Work out your total Fitrana for Ramadan — the per-person amount announced by your local mosque or Ulama board, multiplied by your household size.

Check your local mosque or Ulama board's current Ramadan announcement — the amount is based on staple food prices and varies by source and year.
Include yourself and every dependant you're paying Fitrana for.

Step by step

How Fitrana is worked out

  1. Find the announced per-head amount

From your local mosque, Ulama board, or trusted scholar.

  2. Count your household

Yourself, plus every dependant you support.

  3. See your total

Per-person amount × number of people.

  4. Pay before Eid prayer

Ideally before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, not later.

Reading the result

Per person in the household, not per earner

Fitrana is due for every member of the household the head of the family supports — spouse, children, and dependants living with them. A family of six pays six shares, even though one person may be paying all of it.

A child born before Eid is usually included. This is why the figure is a multiple rather than a single payment, and why families are sometimes surprised by the total.

Why the amount differs depending on who you ask

The obligation is fixed in food, not in money: roughly a saa' of a staple, which is where the familiar wheat-flour measure comes from. The rupee figure is a conversion of that food value at current prices, so it rises with the price of flour and differs between the staples.

Rates announced for dates, barley or raisins are higher than the wheat rate because those foods cost more. Some families deliberately pay the higher figure. Neither choice is arithmetic — both are conversions of the same obligation.

Timing is part of the obligation

Fitrana is meant to reach those entitled to it before the Eid prayer, so the money is usable on the day. Paid a few days early it still serves that purpose. Paid after the prayer, most scholars hold it becomes an ordinary charity payment and the obligation is discharged late.

Where this stops

This multiplies a rate you supply by the number of people you enter. Use the figure announced for your city and the staple you intend, rather than last year's number.

FAQs

Fitrana FAQs

What is Fitrana (Zakat al-Fitr)?

Fitrana is a charitable payment obligatory on every Muslim (or paid on their behalf, e.g. for dependents) at the end of Ramadan, before the Eid al-Fitr prayer — separate from Zakat on wealth.

How much is Fitrana per person?

Traditionally based on the price of a staple food (commonly wheat or flour, sometimes dates or barley). The exact rupee amount is announced annually by local mosques and Ulama boards, since it tracks food prices and can vary by source and year — we don't hardcode a figure that would go stale.

Who must Fitrana be paid for?

The head of household typically pays on behalf of themselves and their dependents — spouse, children, and others they financially support.

When must Fitrana be paid?

Ideally before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. It can also be paid earlier during Ramadan, but should not be delayed past Eid day without a valid reason.
