Confirm the current notified rate for your province.

Step by step

How this is worked out

  1. Select your province

Each has its own institution and notified figures.

  2. Enter the employee wage

    Per employee, per month.

  3. Add the ceiling & rate

Confirm both with your provincial institution.

  4. See employer cost

Per employee, and totalled across your workforce.

Reading the result

This is an employer cost, not a salary deduction

Provincial social security is paid by the employer on top of wages. It is not withheld from the employee's pay, so it belongs in your cost of employment rather than on the payslip as a deduction. Getting that the wrong way round understates your wage bill and shows up as a shortfall at assessment.

Social security and EOBI are different schemes

They are routinely confused because both are contributory and both are deducted around the same time. They are separate:

Registering with one does not register you with the other, and paying one does not discharge the other.

The EOBI contribution calculator handles the federal side.

The wage ceiling catches people out

These schemes carry a wage ceiling, and it does two jobs that are easy to conflate: it decides which employees are covered at all, and in some provinces it caps the wage the contribution is calculated on. An employee above the ceiling may fall outside the scheme entirely rather than simply contributing at the capped rate.

Where this stops

Contribution rates and ceilings are set by each province and revised by notification, which is why they are entered here rather than fixed. Use the current figure from your own provincial institution; the assessment it issues is what governs.

FAQs

SESSI / PESSI FAQs

What are SESSI and PESSI?

Provincial employees' social security institutions — the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI), Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI), and equivalents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan — provide healthcare and other benefits to registered workers, funded by employer contributions.

Who pays the contribution?

The contribution is employer-paid. Unlike EOBI, there is typically no employee-side deduction from wages.

Is there a wage ceiling?

Yes — mandatory coverage is generally capped to employees earning up to a wage ceiling set by each province, which is revised periodically. Confirm the current figure with your provincial institution.

Is this the same as EOBI?

No — EOBI is a federal old-age benefits scheme funded by both employer and employee contributions. SESSI/PESSI are separate provincial health and social-security schemes funded by employer-only contributions. Many employers must register for and pay both.
