Age Calculator
Exact age in years, months and days — calculated the way a calendar does it, not by dividing by 365.

Months step on real dates
With the day clamped to the month's length, so leap years take care of themselves.

Calendar months, not an average month
Age is counted the way a calendar counts it: from the date to the same date in a later month or year. Dividing days by 30 or 365 gives a close answer that is quietly wrong, and the error grows over a lifetime.
Leap years are the reason. Someone born on 29 February has a birthdate that exists only every fourth year, and different systems resolve it differently — 28 February or 1 March in common years. Counting properly avoids the guess.
Why the exact day matters in Pakistan
Age thresholds here are usually cut-off dates rather than approximations, and being a few days the wrong side of one has real consequences:
- Government recruitment sets maximum age limits measured to the closing date of applications.
- Admission and scholarship schemes commonly set a minimum or maximum age on a stated date.
- Superannuation for government service falls on a specific birthday, and pension calculations run from it.
- CNIC eligibility, passport categories and some benefit schemes all turn on an exact date.
For anything on that list, work from the date printed on the CNIC or the matriculation certificate rather than from memory — where records disagree, the document the authority accepts is the one that decides.
Where this stops
It counts the Gregorian calendar. Hijri dates do not convert by a fixed offset, because a lunar year is about eleven days shorter, so an age in Hijri years is not the same number.
The Hijri date converter handles that conversion.
FAQs
Age calculator FAQs
How is age calculated here?
The way a calendar does it. Whole years are counted first, then whole months, then the leftover days — stepping real dates rather than dividing elapsed days by 365, which drifts because of leap years and unequal month lengths.
Can I calculate age on a past or future date?
Yes — set the "as of" date. Leave it blank and today's date is used. This is useful for checking an age at a cut-off date, such as an eligibility deadline or an admission cut-off.
How are leap years handled?
Automatically, because the calculation steps real calendar dates rather than assuming a fixed year length. For someone born on 29 February, the anniversary is taken as 28 February in non-leap years — the day is clamped to the end of the month rather than rolling into March. The same clamping applies to a 31st when the target month is shorter, so 31 January plus one month is 28 or 29 February.
Does age affect income tax in Pakistan?
It has historically mattered for certain reliefs — most notably a reduction for senior citizens above a specified age with income below a threshold. Such reliefs are amended from time to time, so confirm what applies in your tax year before relying on it.
Why does the day of the week matter?
It is shown for interest only — the weekday you were born on. It has no bearing on the age calculation.
