EOBI and provincial social security contributions an employer pays on wages, and the provincial taxes on agricultural income and professions.
An employer in Pakistan pays two kinds of contribution on its workers: EOBI, the federal old-age benefits scheme, and the provincial employees' social security institutions (SESSI in Sindh, PESSI in Punjab and their counterparts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan), which fund medical care and cash benefits. Both are set by statute, and both are worked out on wages defined by the law rather than simply on the pay slip.
The provinces also tax what the Federal Government cannot: agricultural income, under provincial acts with their own slabs, and professions and trades, under the provincial professional tax. Each page follows the province's own law and names it.
